Symantec Hosts Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra
September 16, 2009 Symantec recently hosted federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra at its Mountain View, CA headquarters. Kundra was named to the newly-appointed position by President Obama in March 2009 and directs the policy and strategic planning of federal information technology investments and is responsible for oversight of federal technology spending. In additional, Kundra will establish and oversee enterprise architecture to ensure system interoperability and information sharing and ensure information security and privacy across the federal government.
Kundra met with:
- Scott Taylor, executive vice president, general counsel and secretary, Symantec
- Justin Somaini, chief information security officer, Symantec
- Matthew Steele, director, strategic technology, Symantec
Specifically, Symantec provided Kundra with a briefing on Symantec’s Government Internet Security Threat Report, providing an overview of the latest trends in cyber attacks on U.S. government agencies, along with a risk assessment on government agency vulnerabilities.
Symantec also provided recommendations for improving U.S. government information security, specifically addressing the overall mission of cyber security for the government, along with a discussion about technology, architecture, FISMA, standards and IT reform.
Mark Bregman, chief technology officer of Symantec, followed up with a one-on-one meeting with Kundra at the White House in Washington D.C. on Monday, September 21st, 2009.
