Symantec Continues to Lead Remote Communications Market with Channel & Online Promotions for Award-Winning pcANYWHERE32

CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 25, 1996 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), the worldwide leader in desktop communications software, today announced a “trade-up” and a 30-day online trial program for its industry-leading pcANYWHERE32, the only product of its kind to offer remote control, file transfer and general communications with modem, cable and LAN, and Internet connections across Windows 95 and Windows NT¾all in one box. Effective immediately, registered users of pervious versions of pcANYWHERE or competitive products such as LapLink, Carbon Copy and ReachOut, can purchase pcANYWHERE32 for approximately $89, including a free parallel cable. The program is normally available at an estimated street price of $149.

In an effort to make it as easy as possible to “try before you buy” the new pcANYWHERE32, Symantec is also making available a free 30-day trial version of the 32-bit product on its website at www.symantec.com effective April 1, 1996, and at the Beverly Hills Software Windows NT Resource Center at www.bhs.com .

“This product was released in December of 1995 and has quickly taken the number one position in the remote control market,” said Christopher Calisi, General Manager of remote access products at Symantec Delrina Group. “Our initial success underscores the need users have for the fastest, most reliable and secure remote control solution for both Windows 95 and Windows NT. These programs are designed to continue this momentum by bringing more users in touch with our product.”

pcANYWHERE32 is ideally suited for secure use between home and office, working at off-site locations, helpdesk support and mobile computing. As a true 32-bit product, it lets users take full advantage of Windows 95 and Windows NT including TAPI/Unimodem that makes set-up a snap with the widest range of modems, Plug-and-Play to simplify system changes, and OLE 2.0 that allows users to drag a Host directory entry directly onto their Windows desktop for execution later. pcANYWHERE32 is also backward compatible with versions for Windows and DOS. The product provides login and password protection, data encryption to prevent data from being intercepted during a remote session, and file transfer rights that can be limited by the caller. Host control/audit of calls also prevents unauthorized access to the Host. pcANYWHERE increases productivity and minimizes telephone costs with the fastest remote sessions and file transfer speeds by using a unique SpeedSend feature which transfers only the changed parts of a file.

Since its introduction pcANYWHERE32 has received numerous awards from industry publications including PCWeek Labs Analyst’s Choice and Comdex Fall Best of Show from BYTE Magazine.
