Symantec and Northern Telecom (Nortel) Team up to Provide Secure Enterprise-Wide Electronic Forms

FormFlow™ to Provide Additional Security by Becoming Entrust™-Aware

ANAHEIM, CA - Electronic Messaging Association ‘96 -- April 29, 1996 -- Symantec Corp.’s (Nasdaq:SYMC) Delrina Group, the leader in electronic forms technology, and Northern Telecom (Nortel) Secure Networks today announced FormFlow’s support for the Nortel Entrust™ multi-platform security environment. FormFlow will become Entrust-aware, providing seamless integration with the Entrust security system. This will allow organizations to take advantage of Entrust as an alternative to the RSA technology included in FormFlow 2.0. By supporting Entrust, FormFlow customers will be able to use one security system, providing digital signatures, encryption, and robust key management for all applications including electronic forms.

"With the Canadian federal government planning to implement Entrust as a financial security enterprise standard, any future systems development or business process automation project must consider the impact that this technology will make," said Mike Coolin, senior systems analyst with Hexagon Computer Systems, a contractor for Human Resources Development Canada. "The marriage of FormFlow and Entrust provides a critical platform for enabling government-wide workflow applications. By providing electronic forms in this secure environment, more efficient processes can be developed, improving the levels of service and achieving significant cost savings."

All versions of FormFlow have provided electronic signatures. In version 2.0, FormFlow adds package-level signatures and encryption, allowing users to authenticate all data, forms, and attached files. By linking to Entrust, all key management, encryption and digital signatures are controlled through one security system, providing easy-to-use security for FormFlow electronic forms. With this increased level of security, forms sent over public e-mail such as the Internet are assured of privacy and are protected from tampering. In addition, organizations that are already using Entrust to secure applications such as e-mail, can seamlessly use that secure environment for their electronic forms.

"To achieve the benefits of public-key technology in the corporate environment, a certificate management infrastructure is required," said Brian O'Higgins, director of Nortel Secure Networks. "Making FormFlow Entrust-aware provides customers access to Entrust’s cost-effective key management which scales smoothly to meet the needs of the largest organizations."

Entrust, developed by Nortel Secure Networks, is a family of security software products designed to support encryption, digital signatures and fully automated key management. Entrust provides the ability to fully manage public and private keys, securely distribute those keys, authenticate users, and efficiently manage the security for all enterprise-wide applications from one environment. Entrust also provides secure data transactions for electronic forms, electronic data interchange and electronic mail applications. Entrust supports multiple platforms, including Windows, Macintosh and UNIX.

"Our customers are telling us they want an enterprise-wide, secure environment with robust key and certificate management for their electronic forms applications," said Teddy Rosenberg, general manager of the Electronic Forms Business Unit at Symantec’s Delrina Group. "More and more, organizations are implementing security environments to administer all keys for all applications in one place. By becoming Entrust-aware, FormFlow continues to take advantage of the most critical infrastructure environments that organizations select for their enterprise applications."
