Symantec, Cheyenne and Preferred Systems Deliver Leading Network Administration Solutions

"Power of Three" Promotion Addresses Most Common Network Administration Events

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- June 3, 1996 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), Cheyenne Software, Inc. (AMEX:CYE), and Preferred Systems today announced an agreement to provide an evaluation software CD addressing commonly occurring network administration issues. Initially, the CD will be distributed at the Novell "Connect Your World Solutions Showcase" to qualified participants.

On the CD, each company has included a complementary software product for evaluation. Symantec has included a 10 user LAN version of Norton Administrator for Networks, the leading network administration program for hardware and software inventory, software distribution, and software license metering. Cheyenne provides ARCserve for NetWare. Preferred Systems has included a 50 user version of AuditWare for NDS, a Windows-based advanced NDS reporting and security analysis tool. The total value of products included on the CD exceeds $1,200.

"We value the relationship we have with Cheyenne and Preferred Systems," said Gordon E. Eubanks, Jr., president and CEO of Symantec Corporation. "This agreement allows us to provide comprehensive network administration solutions that allow network administrators to proactively manage network events."

This month, Symantec and Cheyenne will also begin working on specific details to integrate ARCserve for Windows NT and ARCserve for NetWare into Symantec's Norton Administrator Suite. Cheyenne and Symantec first announced the integration intention in February.

"We're pleased to be working with a company of Symantec's caliber," said ReiJane Huai, CEO of Cheyenne Software, Inc. "We're impressed with Symantec's leadership in providing tools that are essential in the day-to-day management of the network. ARCserve is recognized as the industry's best backup and restore solution. This partnership reinforces our commitment to making ARCserve an extremely well-managed application."

"Preferred Systems is excited to provide our tools in conjunction with tools from Cheyenne and Symantec," said Jack Serfass, President and CEO of Preferred Systems. "As the install base of NetWare 4 continues to grow, network management, storage solutions and directory services tools all help complete the picture of seamless enterprise management."

Symantec and Cheyenne will also offer an upgrade plan for existing Norton Enterprise Backup customers who wish to migrate to ARCserve 6.0 for NetWare. This plan will include a pricing scheme that's identical to the upgrade path for ARCserve 4.x or ARCserve 5.x to ARCserve 6.0.
