CUPERTINO, Calif. -- September 3, 1996 -- Imagine this...you’re on your computer. Your kid comes up to you and wants to get a new dog, a Corgi. "OK," you say, "Let’s try and find out some information on the Corgi." You log on to the Internet, go to Yahoo, type in your search request, and lo and behold, no matches. OK, so you go to WebCrawler...well a few matches. And you keep trying different search engines until about an hour later you come up with enough information. Enough to figure out you don’t want a Corgi. But of course you’re upset. Upset because you had to check multiple search engines and waste so much time looking for information on Corgis instead of playing the latest 3-D game.
Symantec has a solution for you. To help alleviate this frustration, Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) announced today Internet FastFind. With the explosive rise of Internet usage, finding specific files or information has quickly become a tedious and frustrating task for all levels of Internet users. Internet FastFind is Symantec’s first Internet specific product that helps users find and retrieve information on the Internet faster and easier. Internet FastFind is the only product that combines simultaneous multi-engine search, notification of changes to selected Websites, FTP and network sites, extensive Internet file searching, zipping and unzipping capabilities, and access to favorite Web sites from the Taskbar.
"Internet FastFind is a new product that provides Internet users with solutions to their most frustrating problems, such as locating and retrieving information, tracking changes to Internet sites and zipping/unzipping files," said John C. Laing, executive vice president of Symantec’s desktop products. "Internet FastFind also allows users to search the Internet and download files without needing to understand intimidating jargon or use confusing programs."
How Internet FastFind Works
By using the WebFind feature, users can simultaneously search several of the biggest Internet search engines. The results are then merged, checked for duplicates, prioritized, and then presented in one easy to understand web page. This feature eliminates the long and tedious process of searching each engine separately. In addition, other features include finding specific files on the Internet and tracking changes and updates to specific sites. Internet FastFind also simplifies many tasks that are often tedious and confusing to the user; such as downloading files from FTP sites which can now be done by simple dragging and dropping.
Pricing and Availability
Internet FastFind from Symantec will be available on September 9, 1996 for an estimated retail price (ERP) of $49.95. Internet FastFind is available for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 and supports the Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator browsers. Users must already have Internet access to use Internet FastFind.
