Symantec and Hewlett-Packard Expand Relationship for Managing Heterogeneous Network Environments

Symantec Exposé chosen as exclusive server management solution for HP's OpenView Professional Suite; Symantec network management tools to be a part of evaluation offering

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- September 9, 1996 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced that Hewlett-Packard Company will OEM Symantec's Exposé as the exclusive technology for managing PC servers through HP's OpenView Professional Suite.

The new HP Exposé provides server monitoring, control, alerts and graphs from the OpenView Workgroup Node Manager console to manage NT and NetWare network operating system (NOS) environments.

In addition, trial versions of Symantec's pcANYWHERE32 will be available on OpenView Professional Suite. These award-winning components allow administrators to proactively manage heterogeneous networks and seamlessly manage remote network resources including remote servers and mobile users.

HP Exposé from Symantec for Integrated Server Management
HP Exposé from Symantec provides OpenView Professional Suite administrators with real- time server management, including event management, server alarms and graphs. A library of built-in alarms and graphs are supplied for both NetWare and NT servers, for a kick-start in implementing PC server management. Administrators can create custom libraries using graphical scripts to construct business process work-flow designed responses to common server problems. HP Exposé can collect and manage server NOS data and forward information onto the OpenView Professional Suite console, alarm engine and logging system. The program will be included and integrated into all copies of OpenView Professional Suite.

Norton Administrator for Networks and pcANYHWERE32
In addition, HP's OpenView Professional Suite includes limited node versions of Symantec's popular Norton Administrator for Networks and pcANYWHERE32. Norton Administrator for Networks delivers immediate return on investment by providing an integrated LAN-to-WAN scaleable solution for hardware/software inventory, software distribution, and software license metering across heterogeneous desktop and LAN environments.

With pcANYWHERE32, administrators can remotely manage Windows95 and Windows NT workstations and servers from the OpenView Professional Suite console. With more than three million active users, pcANYWHERE is the best-selling remote access software available. Once connected, users can securely log into their office network, access documents, and remotely operate Windows-based applications. pcANYWHERE32 further increases productivity by letting users remotely access devices on their PCs and networks, such as printers and CD-ROMs.

Symantec's Norton Administrator for Networks and pcANWHERE32 easily integrates into the OpenView Professional Suite console. Administrators who would like to extend their limited node version to a greater number of nodes, need only to call Symantec at (800) 441-7234. Hewlett-Packard will also provide its customers with a 45-day live trial of Symantec's Norton Administrator for Networks and Expose' at popular trade shows, including Networld+Interop and Comdex.
