Symantec Wins Second Consecutive Best Vendor Award at VarVision Fall '96

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- October 28, 1996 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) last week received the "Best Vendor" Award at VarVision Fall '96 event which was held in Phoenix, Arizona. The award was presented at the VarVision Awards Dinner on October 22, 1996. VarVision is a semi-annual meeting of presidents and key executives from the Value Added Reseller (VAR) and Systems Integrator (SI) community, and the award is selected solely by votes from these senior reseller executives in the industry. Vendors such as Symantec come to these meetings to build strong, strategic relationships with these primary decision makers. Only two awards were given out at the meeting, Best Vendor and Best Product. Symantec was chosen by balloting from among several nominees including notable VAR/SI channel supporters such as AMD, Mustang Software and U.S. Robotics.

The key factors that helped Symantec win this award were the presentation of the following Symantec Solutions:

  • Remote Server Management preview edition
  • Norton Administrator Suite Return-On-Investment Advisor
  • Planning and Budgeting Workbench
"Winning this prestigious award for the second straight year, competing with such seasoned and top-quality vendors, is a real honor for Symantec," said John Bruce, director of worldwide alternate channel sales. "This award recognizes the energy the professionals in our organization have committed to raising the bar over last year's performance by bringing out a host of new and innovative solutions for VARs and Systems Integrators."

"Symantec has achieved the unprecedented by winning the Best Vendor award for the second year in a row," said Peter Eisenhauer, president of VarVision. "This award recognizes that Symantec has successfully demonstrated ongoing commitment to the reseller/integrator channel during the past year with new solutions, technologies and expanded reseller-oriented programs."

Remote Server Management
Remote Server Management is a solution-oriented sales strategy and supporting toolkit designed to provide VARs and integrators with the technical and business tools necessary to deliver remote server management services to their customers. This Symantec Solution covers all the areas needed to add remote server management to a VAR/integrator's service repertoire, including: the sales cycle, pricing, cost-benefit analysis, report-generation tools, technical issues, security, connectivity strategies and technical implementation.

Norton Administrator ROI Advisor
The Norton Administrator Suite (NAS) ROI Advisor is an automated tool that allows VARs to perform complete return on investment (ROI) analysis for corporate customers. The ROI Advisor enables VARs to provide IS managers with an accurate picture of the cost of network ownership. Once computing assets are understood, VARs can make informed solution recommendations that will help IS managers reduce costs and maximize return on investment. Through the comprehensive NAS ROI Advisor analysis, IS managers can quantify the cost factors associated with managing a distributed network. Additionally, the tool can demonstrate to corporations the cost of both implementing and not implementing a recommended solution.

Planning and Budgeting Workbench
The new Planning & Budgeting Consultant Workbench is a powerful desktop asset analysis tool designed with customization and openness in mind. The Planning & Budgeting Consultant Workbench (PBCW) was specifically designed to work with hardware and software inventory data provided by the Symantec Norton Administrator Suite. Like the first version of the award winning Planning & Budgeting for Windows 95 Solution Kit, PBCW provides a detailed financial analysis of a customer's desktop environment. Reports include a subtotal of all hardware and software upgrade costs, installation cost and time, and training cost and time, that may be associated with a large migration plan. In addition, PBCW also reports the upgrade requirements and costs by machine. This allows Symantec Enterprise Alliance consultants to provide customers with financial planning and budgeting information that can be used to accurately assist a customer with migrating their desktop enterprise to new computing environments such as NT 4.0, Intranets, SAP R/3, or Lotus Notes.

VarVision, which is produced by MicroVision, based in Nashua, New Hampshire, features a series of private boardroom meetings between the top VARs and SI's from across the country and the leading vendors who market their products through them. Over the past eleven years, the program has grown to become the most focused marketing event in the value added channel. MicroVision can be reached at (603) 577-9856.
