Norton Utilities 2.0 for Windows 95 Turns the PC into a Fine-Tuned Instrument

New Multimedia Enhancements Make Top Utility Package Even Easier to Use

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- October 29, 1996 -- Updating its leading line of PC problem solving software, Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced the release of Norton Utilities 2.0 for Windows 95. Developed for the 15 million computer users who are comfortable with PCs, the new Norton Utilities prevents and fixes computer problems automatically, helps users tune-up and customize their systems and teaches users about their PCs through multimedia innovations.

Since the first version was introduced in 1982, Norton Utilities has been widely recognized as the best software to protect PCs by keeping the computers’ hard drive working optimally, and by fixing small problems before they become big ones. With version 2.0, Norton Utilities continues to provide incomparable utilities that make using a PC a more productive experience.

Prevents and Fixes Computer Problems Automatically
Norton Utilities’ exclusive System Doctor technology constantly monitors your PC, looking for potential problems and fixing them before they cause a system failure. Through a graphical “point-and-click” interface, the new Norton System Genie includes dozens of ways for users to easily customize Windows 95. System Genie lets users change the way Windows looks and works, handles files, and starts and runs. Norton Utilities’ Speed Disk program keeps hard drives running optimally, while Space Wizard allows users to safely remove unneeded files.

Teaches Users About Their Computers
Using fun 3D animation, audio, video and graphics, Norton Utilities’ new multimedia Companion feature teaches users everything they need to know – or want to know – about disks, memory and Windows 95. Norton’s System Information program also gives a detailed breakdown of the PC components, and benchmarks the system’s performance while running business and multimedia applications.

Pricing and Availability
Norton Utilities 2.0 for Windows 95, with CrashGuard and Anti-Freeze, is available at an estimated retail price (ERP) of $79. Previously registered users of Norton Utilities can upgrade for $49. Norton Utilities 2.0 requires IBM-PC or a 100% compatible, Windows 95, Intel 80486 DX or higher, 8MB of RAM, 31MB free hard disk space, double speed CD-ROM drive, 16-bit sound card and a 256-color VGA or better monitor. Norton Utilities for Windows 95 is available at computer stores nationwide, including Best Buy, Comp USA, Computer City and Egghead Software.
