Internet FastFind Solves Internet Search Frustrations

Symantec Corporation’s New Internet Program Combines the Best of New Features to Search the Internet Web Search Engines

CUPERTINO, Calif. -- October 29, 1996 -- Finding information you are looking for on the Internet is finally getting easier. Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world’s leading developer of desktop diagnostic software products, introduces Internet FastFind, the quickest and easiest way for users to find what they’re really looking for on the Internet.

Symantec Internet FastFind is the only product that seamlessly combines seven programs to make it easier to find and use information available on the Internet. Internet FastFind searches all of the top search engines simultaneously, finds specific files on the Internet, and notifies the user of changes on important Web pages, FTP sites and network files and folders. Internet FastFind easily zips and unzip files, and lets users get to their favorite Web pages from the Windows 95/NT taskbar.

“Symantec has been very successful helping PC users get the most out of their computers and making the latest technology simple to use," said Germaine Ward, director of Symantec’s personal data management unit. “We used our expertise in utilities software to create a program that would make finding and accessing information on the Internet easy and fun, while eliminating the frustration many Internet users experience.”

How Internet FastFind Works
WebFind, Internet FastFind’s flagship feature, allows users to simultaneously use all the top Internet search engines, including Yahoo, Lycos, Alta Vista, Excite, Infoseek, Magellan and WebCrawler. WebFind eliminates the long and tedious process of finding information on the Internet. Checking each engine separately, WebFind merges each engine’s returned results, eliminates any checks for duplication, prioritizes the list according to the search request, and presents the final results list in one easy to understand Web page. Other features let you find specific files on the Internet and track changes and updates to specific sites. Internet FastFind also simplifies many tasks that are often tiresome and confusing to the user; such as downloading files from FTP sites which can now be done by simple drag and drop.
