Symantec Café 1.5 Wins Most Valuable Product at PC Computing Awards

LAS VEGAS, NV -- November 18, 1996 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) announced today that PC Computing's Most Valuable Product for Web Development at the 1996 awards ceremony. Symantec Café, is a powerful Java development tool that features Symantec's award-winning integrated development environment.

"Being first to market and receiving positive press and reviews has given Symantec the recognition for having the best Java development tool available. Symantec Café for Windows 1.5's enhanced features include a dramatically improved compiler that is now 500% faster than the previous compiler. Improvements in the debugger include expression evaluation, watch window and value tip features. The Symantec Café 1.5 update is available to any registered Symantec Café user in the Update Center on the Café website. Symantec Café 1.5 will be bundled with "Teach Yourself Java in Café in 21 Days" by Dan Joshi, Laura Lemay and Charles Perkins. This bundle will be available by the end of the year in the U.S. retail channel only. It will not be available directly from Symantec. Symantec Café for Windows is currently available for purchase on the Symantec Café website (http://cafe.symantec.com) or in the retail channel for an estimated retail price of USD $129. The price will be reduced to USD $79 at the end of November. Symantec Café 1.5 runs on Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Symantec's Norton Utilities for Windows 95 product also won the PC Computing MVP award in the System Utilities' division.
