Toronto, Ontario --January 8, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), the worldwide leader in communications software, today announced that it has posted trial versions of WinFax PRO for Windows 3.x and Windows 95 on the Internet for users to download. There are two trial versions, WinFax PRO 7.5 for Windows 95 and WinFax PRO 4.0 for Windows 3.x, which are the complete and fully-functional versions of the software (less the OCR capability), but are designed to expire 45 days after the user installs them.

WinFax PRO, the world's most popular computer fax software, delivers all the productivity benefits of computer based faxing, enabling users to send, receive and manage all fax communications directly from their desktop.

"Many people believe that the fax software they get with their fax modem or in the operating system is all there is to computer fax," said David Wilmering, director of product management at Symantec. "However, if you ask users who have bought or upgraded to WinFax PRO, they will tell you there are so many additional features and benefits in the product, which take it beyond basic sending and receiving, that it is worth the purchase. For example, would you send a fax without knowing what it looks like? Well, many fax software packages lack even the most basic of features like previewing a fax. WinFax PRO, of course, let's you see what your fax looks like, and even let's you make changes, before you send it. The trial versions of WinFax PRO provide users with the opportunity to experience the benefits of computer-based faxing with a full- featured fax application before they buy it."

In addition to WinFax PRO and its robust faxing capabilities, the Windows 95 trial version also includes TalkWorks. TalkWorks enables computers equipped with a supported voice-capable modem to answer the telephone and take voice messages as well as receive faxes, allows others to call-in for fax information (i.e. a fax-on-demand capability) and includes hands-free speakerphone functionality.

Symantec also recently posted a "Sneak Preview" version of WinFax PRO for Windows NT, which also includes TalkWorks. More than 30,000 people have download the "Sneak Preview" since it was posted on October 30, 1996 (available at www.symantec.com/winfax), and the feedback from users has been very positive.

"Reliable fax communication is extremely important in my business," commented Rick Miale, a Graphic Designer in Asheville North Carolina. "I was faxing flawlessly within minutes of downloading the WinFax PRO for Windows NT 'Sneak Preview', and I plan to buy copies for our company when it ships."

All versions of WinFax PRO have an estimated street price of about US$99. Users with WinFax LITE or other versions of WinFax PRO can upgrade for less. The WinFax PRO 7.5 and 4.0 trial versions are available at www.symantec.com/winfax.
