Symantec's Visual Café PRO Wins CNet Internet Excellence Awards for Best Internet Development Tool

CUPERTINO, Calif. --March 11, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) announced today that Symantec’s Visual Café Pro has won the Best Internet Development Tool for CNET’s Internet Excellence Awards. The CNET Awards were created to applaud the innovative products and companies that continue to advance the usefulness and usability of the Internet. Symantec Visual Café Pro won this award against Microsoft Visual Basic 5 Control Creation Edition, and Microsoft Visual J++ 1.0.

Visual Café Pro is the only fully-integrated Visual Rapid Application Development tool for Java and database application solutions and provides distributed database access from anywhere on the Web using only a Java-enabled browser. Visual Café Pro allows web developers to quickly and easily create thin Java applets and applications that can access existing relational databases, using innovative database wizards and pre-build Java Beans components. Included in Visual Café Pro is dbANYWHERE, a middleware database application server technology that allows Java programs to access corporate databases over the Internet using JavaSoft's JDBC API. dbANYWHERE provides the scalability and security of a three-tier solution with the ease of development and implementation of a two-tier solution.

Symantec Visual Café Pro for Windows is currently available for ordering on the Symantec website ( and is available in the retail channel for an estimated retail price (ERP) of US $499.95. Visual Café Pro is designed to run on Windows 95 and Windows NT 3.51 and NT 4.0.
