Apple to Bundle Norton Utilities for Macintosh with New Small Business Mac

CUPERTINO, Calif. --March 31, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today that the award-winning Norton Utilities for Macintosh 3.2 will be bundled on Apple's new line of Macintosh computers for the small business market. Norton Utilities for Macintosh 3.2 will be included on the Small Business Macintosh 6500/250 and 4400/200, scheduled to be released this month. Terms of the agreement were not released.

Norton Utilities for Macintosh is the most advanced solution for system and data protection and repair available for single and networked Macintosh computers. The combination of the market-leading Norton Utilities for Macintosh and the first Macintosh computers made just for small businesses will give users needed protection against lost or damaged files. Norton Utilities for Macintosh will detect and prevent disk problems before damaging data loss ever occurs, a painful threat for small business owners.

"We are pleased to be involved with a leading-edge company like Apple," said Enrique Salem, Vice President, Security and Assistance Business Unit, Symantec Corporation. "The partnering of Norton Utilities for Macintosh and the new Small Business Macintoshes will provide small business owners with two great advantages in the marketplace."

The Apple Small Business Macintosh Series is designed specifically for small and home-based business owners who need a computer that is ready to use out of the box. The Series includes everything necessary to create correspondence and marketing materials, manage finances, send e-mail and faxes, access the Internet and more - all without purchasing additional software or office hardware such as fax machines or modems. Bundled with the industry-standard business software, including Microsoft Office, these systems provide users with comprehensive, powerful small business solutions.

"Not only do small business owners need a complete, no hassle computer system that works immediately out of the box, they need to protect the critical data and information they will be storing on their new Macintosh," said Greg LaPorte, senior manager of Apple's small business marketing. "We chose Norton Utilities 3.2 to be bundled with the new Small Business Macintosh 6500/250 and 4400/200 to provide small business owners with the peace of mind that their data is protected from day one."
