Symantec Corporation Announces New Online Services For Worldwide Electronic Software Distribution

CUPERTINO, Calif. --April 14, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced a new world-wide software distribution strategy that provides Symantec software products online over the Internet. Through Electronic Software Distribution (ESD), customers can purchase full product direct from the company at www.symantec.com, or through a reseller/clearinghouse combination, and can try software before purchasing by downloading a copy at www.symantecstore.com/trialware. Symantec's ESD strategy is "SPA-Compliant," or consistent with the Software Publishers' Association, and provides customers with several options when making an Internet-based electronic transaction. Channel agreements currently include: Cybersource (clearinghouse); Release Software Corp.(wrapper); Software.Net, Programmers Paradise and Creative Computers. (resellers).

Symantec's Direct Electronic Software Distribution
Customers wishing to purchase software direct from Symantec can log on to >www.symantec.com. Products currently available on the site for purchase include full working versions of the Norton AntiVirus family for Windows 95/NT, Symantec AntiVirus for the Macintosh, Internet FastFind, the Symantec Cafe' line of products including Visual Page for the Macintosh and updates to ACT! 3.0 for Windows 95/NT/Macintosh. In addition, there is a listing of International, U.S. and Canadian resellers and distributors as well as Hot Links to reseller sites.

As part of the ongoing commitment to provide customers with the best products for their needs, Symantec's new trialware site is active at www.symantecstore.com/trialware. The site provides Symantec customers with the ability to try software before they purchase. The site includes lite and timebomb versions of Symantec products including ACT!, Norton AntiVirus, pcANYWHERE, Internet Fast Find, SpeedDisk and the Symantec Café line of products as well as free software including Norton Secret Stuff and Crash Guard. As part of the ESD initiative, a special wrapper version of Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95 is available that can be unlocked within 30-days by following a few on-screen instructions. Symantec Trialware is available for different platforms as well as several International versions.

Symantec's Channel Electronic Software Distribution
Symantec ESD channel agreements (as listed above) ensure a safe, secure and positive customer experience. Customers can log on to the reseller site of their choice when purchasing Symantec software. Next steps for the site include working agreements with distributors and larger resellers to provide a wider channel reach for Symantec's ESD strategy.
