Symantec Sweeps Secure Computing Awards

Symantec wins three major awards at Secure Computing

CUPERTINO, Calif --April 30, 1997-- Symantec's position as the world's leading provider of security software solutions was underlined at the inaugural Secure Computing Awards ceremony held in London, England on April 29, 1997.

By winning three of the major categories, the company won more awards than any other software vendor and also gained more nominations. In addition to winning categories for Best Encryption with Norton AntiVirus (in Best AntiVirus).

In all more than 250 nominations were received and 28 finalists were accepted. More than 1 million people had the opportunity to vote. The awards were based on votes received from readers of The Times and Secure Computing magazine as well as a specially created Internet page.

"Winning more awards than any other vendor is an awesome achievement," said Enrique Salem, vice president of Symantec's Security and Assistance Business Unit. "Our absolute focus is to make sure that our products serve the needs of our customers to make computing easier, more secure and more productive. These awards demonstrate how we are succeeding in meeting our customers needs in these areas. Our challenge is to continue to delight our customers through excellent service and the delivery of innovative and class leading products."

Commenting, Paul Robinson, editor of Secure Computing, said: "These awards seek to promote the cause of good computer security and reward the activity of individuals and companies which are contributing to good computer security. In addition to winning more awards and nominations than any other company, Symantec was one of the sponsors of The Secure Computing Awards and also sponsored an award to the journalist of the Best Security Article, as voted by a panel of judges. The award was made to Glyn Moody for his article "Cracking Codes", which appeared in the March 1997 issue of Business Computer World.
