CUPERTINO, Calif. -- August 18, 1997 -- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the worldwide leader in PC communications software, today announced the availability of pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0, the fastest, easiest access to an office PC. Whether working from home, in the office, or on the road, pcANYWHERE continues to set the standard for reliability and ease-of-use in remote communication software. Symantec's pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0 offers new features that provide the best technology for remote-control, file-transfer and general communications.

"As our users become more and more mobile, their demands for innovative remote access solutions increase. With the introduction of pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0, we have met and exceeded those needs," said Christopher Calisi, Vice President of the Remote Productivity Solutions Business Unit at Symantec. "pcANYWHERE32's new features will continue to expand Symantec's market dominance by giving our customers the most secure, fastest, easiest remote-control solution for the 32- bit Windows environment."

pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0 is the first remote access product of its kind to provide complete access to data, applications and people. With a single click, users can now conference with co-workers, transfer files, and access everything they need on their desktop to be fully functional away from the office.

New features in pcANYWHERE32 include enhanced Windows NT 4.0 support with exceptional security features, a new Host Multi-Connect conferencing technology and integration with free desktop video-chat software from White Pine Software. This technology provides a powerful tool for telecommuters and users who provide training and support. Users can now easily switch from a live remote control session to a face-to-face video conferencing meeting with a single click from the pcANYWHERE32 on-screen toolbar. pcANYWHERE32 is also the ideal solution for conferencing with or training multiple people in multiple sites. The new Host conferencing technology allows up to 256 users to simultaneously view a presentation or demo.

pcANYWHERE32 8.0 now offers the best value in remote-control and file transfer software by providing support for all major OS platforms in one box including Windows 95, Windows NT 3.51 and 4.0, Windows 3.1x and DOS for Intel-based computers, all for one price. pcANYWHERE32 is also the only logical choice when using the NT operating system. With Version 8.0, the caller security is now integrated into the NT User Manager so there is no more managing separate tables of passwords and users only need to remember their standard network password. It also makes network-wide implementation simple. pcANYWHERE32 also continues to excel in providing secure communications over an unsecured medium such as the Internet.

pcANYWHERE32 now employs Microsoft's Crypto API which implements strong encryption services providing new levels of security, including Public Key and Symmetric Level Encryption. pcANYWHERE32 supports 40 bit and 128 bit key lengths, depending upon the Cryptographic Service Provider (CSP) used.

pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0 also includes Symantec's LiveUpdateTM technology. LiveUpdate provides seamless product updating through Symantec's website via the users' telephone or Internet connection, thus ensuring the user has the most up- to-date software available to meet their needs.
