CUPERTINO, Calif. --October 3, 1997-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today that its popular Norton CrashGuard utility, providing the most effective crash recovery on the market, is now available as a standalone product for Macintosh users. Previously only included with Norton Utilities for Macintosh (NUM) 3.5, Norton CrashGuard for Macintosh can now be downloaded from Symantec's Web site (http://www.symantec.com) for US $19.95.
Norton CrashGuard helps users protect their work by allowing them to save their data if an application crashes. Norton CrashGuard also reduces the need to restart the computer every time a crash occurs, saving users the time and frustration of recreating work from scratch.
"Computer crashes are an inevitable reality and happen frequently enough to cause concern over lost data," said Enrique Salem, chief technical officer and vice president of the Security and Assistance Business Unit at Symantec. "Norton CrashGuard is designed to keep users headache-free by stopping most crashes from taking down their Power Macintosh."
Norton CrashGuard operates in the background so that it can intercept crashes as they happen. Through a simple dialogue interface, Norton CrashGuard offers users several options to save data and time in the event of a system or software crash. When an application crashes, users can choose to have Norton CrashGuard try and fix the application so they can save unsaved work in the application that has crashed, they can quit the crashed application and keep working on their Macintosh, or they can restart the computer.
Norton CrashGuard also keeps a log of when crashes happen, which application has crashed and why it crashed to help the user determine the cause and take action to prevent future crashes.
