Symantec Wins Editors' Pick Awards from Home Office Computing Magazine

CUPERTINO, Calif. --November 17, 1997--Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today that two of it's products, Norton Utilities for Macintosh 3.5 won Editors' Pick Awards from Home Office Computing magazine. The annual awards were announced at the Fall COMDEX computer trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Sunday evening.

For the Editors' Pick Awards, 20 editors and contributing editors at Home Office PC and Small Business Computing magazines nominated more than 200 products. From that list they chose the winners whose products would best help small office businesses. The Editors' Pick Awards are dedicated exclusively to the Small Office/Home Office market.

Winning the Editors' Pick Award for Best Utility for Macintosh was Norton Utilities for Macintosh 3.5. Norton Utilities for Macintosh (NUM) 3.5 contains CrashGuard, faster Speed Disk, Apple Guide Support and a new bootable CD-ROM, everything to help protect data and fix computer problems on one disk. NUM gives users optimal and comprehensive data protection, scanning for disk errors in the background and automatically notifying users when maintenance is recommended. If disaster strikes, NUM includes tools needed for complete data recovery and disk repair.

Winning Editors' Pick Award for Best Utility, Virus Tool was Norton AntiVirus 4.0. Norton AntiVirus (NAV) 4.0 is the industry leader in automatic, comprehensive virus protection for Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1, and DOS workstations. NAV 4.0 provides users with detection and repair of in-the-wild viruses. In addition, NAV 4.0 users receive cutting-edge protection against unknown viruses through Symantec's revolutionary Bloodhound technology.
