Symantec Announces the Solutions Alliance Program

Program focuses on providing VAR community with easy, flexible solutions based on Symantec software and services

CUPERTINO, Calif. --November 17, 1997--Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced the Solutions Alliance Program, a business relationship between the company and its reseller community. The program helps VARs (Value Added Resellers), integrators, developers and consultants build a business based on Symantec products focusing on the areas of anti-virus and security, remote professional solutions, Internet tools and contact management. The program will be introduced at Comdex in Las Vegas, NV this week.

Symantec Solutions for Success Kits
Centered around "Solutions for Success Kits", the program provides customer-focused products and services designed to help resellers maintain existing accounts and attract new ones. The Anti-Virus/Security Kit, featuring Norton AntiVirus and on display at Comdex, helps demonstrate the cost-effectiveness of virus protection and provides comprehensive virus clean up and prevention services. The Telecommuter/Remote Professional Kit, featuring pcANYWHERE and WinFax PRO, demonstrates how to package and sell complete remote user solutions, providing customers with the tools they need to keep their employees accessible and productive no matter where they are. The Internet Tools Kit provides a complete set of Internet development tools from web page design to Java application development to database connectivity. The first Solution Kit available will be the Anti-Virus/Security Kit; others listed above are expected to be available spring 1998. Future Success Kits will help address fast-growing new customer needs in the most productive areas of market growth.

Solutions Alliance Program Components
The program provides two levels of membership: Solutions Associate and Solutions Partner. The Solutions Associate level offers the following: Access to all Solution Kits; a Symantec Solutions Alliance web site at www.symantec.com/var/ which provides access to detailed technical information, sales resources and program updates; the Symantec Premiere Value licensing program; free dedicated technical support (up to ten incidents); a free listing on Symantec's website; access to all Symantec products and a Not For Resale purchase program; a quarterly Symantec newsletter featuring the latest company news and product revisions; and Alliance Program artwork and collateral. The Solutions Partner level offers all of the Associate level benefits in addition to a dedicated Symantec Account Representative, qualified sales leads, Symantec's highest level of technical support, and joint Symantec marketing opportunities.

Solutions Alliance Membership
In addition to a completed application, Solution Associates must maintain Symantec Certified Consultants on staff for each product specialty, provide technical services to customers and submit quarterly sales and service reports. Solution Partners must be nominated by a Solutions Alliance account representative and demonstrate technical expertise in Symantec products. To enroll in the program, a completed application must be sent to Symantec Corporation, Solutions for Success Program, 10201 Torre Ave., Cupertino, CA 95014-2132.
