Symantec's Visual Café for Java Database Development Edition Wins PC Magazine Award for Technical Excellence at COMDEX

Las Vegas, Nev. --November 18, 1997--Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ:SYMC), the leading provider of Java development environments, announced today that Symantec's Visual Café for Java 2.0 Database Development Edition won the coveted PC Magazine Award for Technical Excellence. Recognized as an industry leader, Symantec's Visual Café for Java Database Development Edition was honored at an elaborate awards ceremony at COMDEX, the world's largest computer and electronics trade show. The runners up were Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Visual Basic 5.0 Enterprise Edition and Borland (NASDAQ: BORL) Delphi 3 Client/Server Suite.

Pricing and Availability
Symantec's Visual Café for Java 2.0 Database Development Edition is expected to sell for an Estimated Retail Price (ERP) of $499.95. Upgrades from Visual Café Pro are available from Symantec for $99. Visual Café for Java is designed to run on Windows 95 and Windows NT.

Sun Microsystems, Inc.'s Java, is the de facto standard platform for network computing.
