Cupertino, Calif. --December 22, 1997--Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), the worldwide leader in PC communications software, announced today that it continues to lead the growing remote control software market with the award winning pcANYWHERE32. pcANYWHERE32 has recently won the 1997 "Readers Choice Award" from eNT Magazine and 1997 "Integrators Choice Award" from Network VAR. In addition, pcANYWHERE CE has also won "Product of the Year and the "First Class Award" from Mobile Computing and Communications.
According to the September 1997 Retail Market Share Report from PC Data, Symantec increased its remote access software marketshare to 73.7% from 60% compared to the same period last year. The closest competitor lost marketshare from 28% down to 22% from last year to this year for the same period. The PC Data numbers also indicate that the overall remote control market is continuing to grow as well. PC Data's Retail Report is based on units sold by 42 retail and mail order chains, representing more than 70 percent of the total U.S. retail market.
"Symantec continues it's lead in the remote-control and file transfer market-space as proven by customers and the editorial community. With the most recent launch of pcANYWHERE32, Version 8.0, Symantec leads the market by meeting the needs of telecommuters and mobile workers, as well as Corporate MIS and value-added resellers who support remote users and network resources," said Christopher Calisi, Vice President of the Remote Productivity Solutions Business Unit at Symantec. "We will continue to respond to our customer's needs and provide market-leading and easy-to-use solutions for mobile-workers and telecommuters."
pcANYWHERE32 offers users the flexibility to both telecommute while helping people balance their work and home life.
"After an evaluation, we decided that implementing a telecommuting strategy, allowing selected agents to work from their homes, would be a perfect solution," said Bill Reed, manager of operations at America West Vacations. "pcANYWHERE provides a seamless realtime link between the home agent's computer and a corresponding host computer located in the Tempe office. The customer never knows whether they are talking to an in-house or a home-agent. Because pcANYWHERE works, our Home Agent Program works. pcANYWHERE makes it all possible."
"Using pcANYWHERE32 I increased work hours, but not time at the office," said Dan Sites, vice president of administration at American Capitol Insurance Company, based in Houston, Texas. "I think Symantec has made tremendous strides in making file transfers easy and reliable. The thing I like most about pcANYWHERE32 is that it gives me flexibility with my time. I no longer have to choose between work and home. I can balance my time between both."
pcANYWHERE32, 8.0 offers remote control, file transfer, and general communications with modem, cable, and network connections in one box, cable included. pcANYWHERE32 Version 8.0 is available for an estimated retail price of US $149.00 for a two computer (host and remote) license. Users of previous versions of pcANYWHERE can upgrade to version 8.0 for US $79.00 after retail rebates or directly from Symantec.
