Symantec's Visual Café Macintosh Named Finalist for MacWorld/MacTech Eddy Awards

Visual Café Macintosh Also Named Winner of Merisel's 1997 Hot List Award

Cupertino, Calif. --January 5, 1998--Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC), a leading provider of Java development environments, announced today that Symantec's Visual Café Macintosh, a Rapid Application Development tool, was named a finalist for the prestigious MacWorld/MacTech Eddy Awards for the Best Macintosh Tool for New Technologies. The winner will be announced this evening at an elaborate awards ceremony in San Francisco as part of the MacWorld trade show activities.

Symantec Visual Café Macintosh was also awarded the Merisel Inc. (Nasdaq:MSEL) 1997 Hot List Award. This award means that in 1997 Merisel sold more Symantec Visual Café Macintosh products in the Macintosh language category than any other product. Merisel's Hot List is produced to recognize the best-selling products within 25 product segments and four distinct channels. Since 1982, Merisel's Hot List has been a leading industry indicator in determining top-selling products and has provided resellers, manufacturers and industry analysts with a comprehensive tool to track product trends.
