Symantec Solution '98 Explores Electronic Commerce Strategies Reseller Event Focuses on Business Models and Issues

Cupertino, Calif --April 22, 1998-- Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq:SYMC) today announced Symantec Solution '98, a free reseller symposium focusing on electronic commerce strategies. The symposium will be held at The Hayes Convention Center in San Jose, Calif., April 29-30. Symantec Solution '98 sessions will include discussion on e-commerce sales strategies, product direction with respect to Internet sales, challenges for resellers in the e-space, the variety of different business models, and other subjects. The conference will provide resellers with information on how to increase their business through e-commerce. Keynote speakers for the two-day conference include: Al DiGuido, executive vice president of Ziff-Davis; Frank Catalano, author of Marketing on the Internet for Dummies; and Tracy Weatherby, founder of business planning and marketing firm Active Ingredient. Several Symantec channel partners will also be presenting various models and strategies for using e-commerce. "Symantec has been aggressive in the e-commerce channel," said Susan Thomas, manager of e-commerce channel development for Symantec. "Our company works to be everywhere our customers would like to purchase-this symposium will help resellers use e-commerce achieve that goal." The symposium will begin with a welcome lunch on Wednesday, April 29 at the Hayes Conference Center in San Jose. The day will feature keynote speaker Al DiGuido; discussion of Symantec's e-commerce and product strategies; and discussion on challenges and issues facing resellers. A reception dinner will also be hosted by Symantec that evening from 6 to 9 p.m. On Thursday, April 30, the symposium will commence with a breakfast. Following, will be a full day of discussions and presentations by Symantec partners about various e-commerce business models and strategies. The keynote speakers, Frank Catalano and Tracy Weatherby, will share insights before the mid-day break. Each keynote speaker during the conference will discuss areas of e-commerce. Al DiGuido, executive vice president and group publisher of Ziff-Davis, is responsible for Computer Shopper and the NetBuyer Web site. Computer Shopper, is the number one magazine for people who purchase computer products "direct" (online or through mail order) from manufacturers and resellers. NetBuyer is an all-in-one site for computer shopping. Both publications work to help consumers learn about the advantages of buying direct. Frank Catalano is a computer industry analyst and strategist. As the principal of Catalano Consulting, he has worked with firms including The McGraw-Hill Companies, Silicon Graphics, Broderbund, Apple Computer and others. Along with Bud Smith, he co-authored Marketing Online for Dummies. He currently serves with PC Data, Inc. as acting Managing Director for Internet Monitoring. Tracy Weatherby has over 10 years of experience in high technology marketing and strategy, including her work as founder of Active Ingredient, a strategic business planning and marketing firm. Prior to founding Active Voice, Weatherby held management positions in marketing at Apple Computer and Momenta Corporation.
