Symantec Consolidates Leadership of Retail Market

Cupertino, Calif --April 28, 1998-- Figures released by independent research firm PC Data show that for the second consecutive month five Symantec products are in the top ten list of best-selling Windows business software.

In March the Symantec products in the top ten were Norton Utilities 3.0, Norton AntiVirus 4.0 Standard, Norton AntiVirus 4.0 Deluxe, Norton Uninstall Deluxe and Norton Crashguard Deluxe. When the same five products appeared in the February list Symantec became the first company to account for 50 percent of the best selling products.

"I am particularly pleased with the performance of Norton Uninstall Deluxe and Norton Crashguard Deluxe," said Dana Siebert, Vice President of the Americas. "Both products entered competitive market sectors near the end of 1997 and rapidly took market share away from the established products."

The combination of the Norton brand, our relationship with the channel and our ability to identify and satisfy customer needs gives us powerful retail engine which we will apply to new products we plan to launch this year."
