Network Computing Names pcANYWHERE32 Editor's Choice Version 8.0

Outperforms Seven CompetitorsĀ¹ Products, Including Offerings from Netopia, Stac, Vector Networks, Compaq, Funk Software, Artisoft, and Traveling Software

Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC), the worldwide leader in communications applications, today announced that HREF=http://www.symantec.com/pca/index.html>pcANYWHERE32 v8.0 was named Editor¹s Choice in an exhaustive evaluation of enterprise remote control products published in the May 15, 1998, issue of Network Computing. This award is the latest in a series of recent awards for pcANYWHERE. In March, the product was awarded the prestigious 1998 Mobility Software Product of the Year from Mobile Insights. In June, it was named to Windows Magazine¹s influential WinList of recommended products.

"Our top finisher, pcANYWHERE, offers a strong application architecture with versatile security methods for user access, securing both the client application and host access,² wrote Network Computing editor Mike Fratto. "Additionally, it offers tight integration into Windows 95/NT, leveraging NT Domain security. It offers broad support for numerous network protocols and solid session scripting for automating remote control sessions."

To test and compare each product, Network Computing installed eight enterprise remote control solutions in its Real-World Lab at Syracuse University. Editors then performed two tests to determine how well each application performed under duress. First, to test platform stability, they initiated a remote control session and dropped the client-side interface on the intervening router to simulate an unreachable host-a common network occurrence. Then, to examine how well the server acts after numerous connections, for six hours they repeatedly launched remote control sessions to determine if the host retained system resources after multiple connections. After carefully evaluating the results of the tests, editors concurred that pcANYWHERE32 outscored each of the competing seven products to earn the distinguished Editor¹s Choice award.

"We are extremely pleased that pcANYWHERE32 has distinguished itself in Network Computing¹s rigorous review process and has been named the best-performing enterprise remote control solution," said Christopher Calisi, vice president of the Remote Productivity Solutions Business Unit at Symantec. "The results of this review confirm that as the number of remote users increases within the corporate enterprise, pcANYWHERE32 is uniquely prepared to address the mission-critical demands of the enterprise customer." pcANYWHERE32 v8.0 offers users remote control, file transfers, and general communications with modem, cable, and network connections in one box. Users can run pcANYWHERE32 as either a host, a remote control commander, or a gateway.
