Dayton Hudson Corporation Turns to Symantec to Protect Network and Reduce Remote Worker Cost

General Merchandise Retailing Company Purchase Licenses for 32,500 Seats of Norton AntiVirus and 12,500 Seats of pcAnywhere

Cupertino, Calif – August 30, 1999 - Symantec Corporation (Nasdaq: SYMC) announced today that Dayton Hudson Corporation, the company that operates 881 Target stores, 267 Mervyn’s stores and 63 other department stores across the nation has purchased a site license for 32,500 seats of Norton AntiVirus and 12,500 seats of pcAnywhere.

Dayton Hudson decided to migrate to Norton AntiVirus following a wide-ranging review of its anti-virus strategy. The company will rely on Norton AntiVirus to protect its network from virus detection at every level from email gateway through the server and desktop.

"Ensuring our enterprise is free of viruses is critical to the success of our businesses. The Symantec solution will not only protect our network from viruses, it can easily be integrated into our existing infrastructure and processes and simplify ongoing administration and management . After reviewing the options, Symantec's Norton AntiVirus was clearly the most effective fit," said Joel Smollen, PC & LAN technical services team lead.

Smollen added that the additional purchase of a 12,500 seat license for pcAnywhere is aimed at improving IS efficiency and reducing costs by remotely managing servers at multiple headquarters buildings, 21 distributions centers, more than 100 remote offices and 1,211 retail locations.
