Humana Selects Symantec For Desktop Cloning Efficiency

CUPERTINO, Calif. - July 18, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC) today announced that Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM), one of the nation's largest publicly traded healthcare companies, has purchased 19,000 licenses of Norton Ghost.

Norton Ghost's industry-leading disk-cloning utilities allow Humana to efficiently standardize operating systems, applications and global workstations by developing an archive of duplicate alias images for Humana machines. In addition, Norton Ghost provides a security feature to safeguard the contents of the desktop systems during the reconfiguration process.

Humana is also using the enhanced GDISK component of Norton Ghost, which offers an extended cleaning and redistribution capability to support large capacity disks and provide secure disk wiping applications. Another valuable tool is the Ghost Walker utility, which assigns unique security identifiers (SIDs) on cloned Windows NT systems to ensure that networked machine function properly.

"The methods to deploy operating systems and software applications to a new machine has grown cumbersome and difficult to maintain," said John Stengel, Humana vice president of Information Technology and Technical Services. "Symantec's Norton Ghost offers both speed and consistent integrity of the archived information, making this a valuable resource to Humana."

"Symantec believes in supporting its enterprise customers with solutions to decrease costs and improve productivity," said Gail Hamilton, senior vice president, enterprise solutions at Symantec. "With Norton Ghost, Humana system administrators are able to simultaneously download image files to multiple stations, dramatically reducing expenditures on time and resources."
