Symantec's Chief Executive Officer Addresses Global Direction of Internet Security at the European Technology Roundtable Exhibition

CUPERTINO, Calif. -October 9, 2000 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that John W. Thompson, chairman, president and CEO at Symantec Corp., is participating as a keynote speaker at ETRE, the European Technology Roundtable Exhibition, to be held in Prague from Oct. 11 - 14. The session featuring Thompson will be held on Oct. 13 and will address the scalability of the Internet and the resulting security challenges.

He has served as chairman of the Florida A∓M University Cluster and the Illinois Governor's Human Resource Advisory Council. Thompson holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Florida A∓M University and a master's degree in management science from MIT's Sloan School of Management.
