Norton SystemWorks 2001 Outperforms Competitors in Maximum PC Review

Superior Integration and High Performance of Best-of-Breed Toolset Earn Top-Selling Utility Suite Winning Marks in Head-to-Head "Superslam"

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Dec 12, 2000- Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that Norton SystemWorks 2001 outperformed the competition in a head-to-head product review conducted by Maximum PC. The review, published in the December 2000 edition of the magazine, singled out Norton SystemWorks 2001 for the superior integration and high performance of its best-of-breed utilities.

"Norton SystemWorks 2001 is widely recognized as the most complete, easy-to-use utility suite on the market today. We are gratified by this ongoing success, and are pleased that consumers and editors alike continue to select Norton SystemWorks 2001 as the smartest way to keep their computers working," said Steve Cullen, senior vice president of Symantec's Consumer Products Division.

In the review, editors called Norton SystemWorks 2001 "a winner . . . Norton SystemWorks 2001 is a lean, clean diagnostics machine." In evaluating Norton SystemWorks, reviewers highlighted the suite's "well-integrated and logical menus, its consistently dependable performance, and useful disk repair and system maintenance applications." Editors also pointed to Symantec Web Services as an exceptional new feature of Norton SystemWorks 2001, which analyzes the user's program installation over the Internet and recommends available driver fixes and program upgrades.

According to reviewers, Norton SystemWorks 2001 remains the most intuitive utility suite. "New features aside, Norton SystemWorks 2001 is still the easiest of the office suites to install and use without confusion or hassles," editors noted. "Instead of losing the user in a maze of submenus, the SystemWorks 2001 main menu gets right to the point and offers a One Button Checkup option to perform complete system diagnostics and repair." Reviewers also called out the Rescue Disk feature of Norton SystemWorks 2001, calling it "the best we've seen" for enabling quick recovery from disasters.

"The rest of the package is standard Norton, and it's our favorite for times when Lab testing gets a little out of hand," the review continued. According to editors, Norton SystemWorks' utilities such as Norton Disk Doctor, Speed Disk, Unerase, and Norton WinDoctor are favored over corresponding applications from competitors.

Norton SystemWorks 2001 is the most effective, easy-to-use toolset for complete PC protection and problem solving, providing virus protection, PC diagnostics, system maintenance, and system optimization in a single, tightly integrated product suite. The suite includes Norton AntiVirus 2001, Norton Utilities 2001, Norton CleanSweep 2001, Symantec Web Services and Symantec Web Partners.

Norton SystemWorks continues to win awards and outperform and outsell competitors. Awards include ZDNet Editor's Pick and Best Buy, PC Magazine Editor's Choice, Windows Magazine WinList, and PC World Best Buy. Since its introduction, Norton SystemWorks also has maintained its position on PC Data's Top 10 List of Best-Selling Business Software.
