Symantec Expert to Discuss Network Vulnerability Testing and Verification at Cotscon East

CUPERTINO, Calif. - May 30, 2001 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, today announced that Ryan Walters, senior manager at Symantec AntiVirus Research Center, will speak at COTScon East on Wednesday, May 30 in Washington, D.C at 4:30 p.m. Walters will discuss how engineers can properly set up a test facility designed to validate product vulnerabilities found during beta or field testing.

"Engineers must familiarize themselves with non-intrusive testing methods in order to determine possible vulnerabilities associated with their network's components and systems," Walters said. As senior manager at Symantec, Walters is responsible for establishing Symantec's services in vulnerability analysis, secure computing practices, and worldwide intrusion response capabilities. Walters has more than 11 years of experience in the computer industry and is fluent in most operating systems, languages, and network protocols. Prior to joining Symantec, Walters was branch chief at INFOSEC Intrusion Analysis where he was responsible for anti-virus, intrusion, and vulnerability analysis.
