CUPERTINO, Calif. - Aug. 13, 2001-Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), a world leader in Internet security, today announced a new version of its VelociRaptor firewall and virtual private network (VPN) appliance. Designed for customers who value ease-of-use and security at a reasonable price, VelociRaptor provides an integrated hardware and software firewall/VPN appliance. Symantec's new version of VelociRaptor offers restructured licensing and three capacity models to provide users with a complete firewall and VPN solution suitable for their specific business needs.
The appliance is now available in three models to provide cost-effective options for customers: model 500, model 700 and model 1000. Symantec VelociRaptor model 500 is suitable for protecting networks of up to fifty nodes. VelociRaptor model 700 comes with an unlimited node license and is designed for protecting networks of up to T3 speed. VelociRaptor model 1000 also ships with an unlimited node license and is intended for securing networks of up to fast Ethernet speed.
"Small and medium businesses, ISPs and branch offices of large corporations often don't have the dedicated security resources of larger businesses, although they still require a high level of network security," said Barry Cioe, director of product management at Symantec. "Symantec VelociRaptor's small footprint, remote management and plug-and-protect functionality, make it ideal for customers who require industrial strength protection, but want the ease-of-use of an appliance."
Symantec VelociRaptor, a key part of Symantec Enterprise Security, delivers an unparalleled combination of security and performance with enterprise-class data inspection capabilities. Named as Network Magazine's Product of the Year in the firewall category earlier this year, the appliance enables customers to control information entering and leaving the network in an easy-to-use plug-and-protect unit. VelociRaptor incorporates full data inspection technology that filters traffic and integrates application level proxies, network circuit analysis and packet filtering into the gateway security architecture.
