CUPERTINO, Calif. - Feb. 19, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that the office of the Secretary of Public Education (SEP) for the country of Mexico has selected Symantec antivirus solutions to protect against malicious code. SEP is the largest public agency in Mexico. Under the contract, SEP will standardize on Symantec's Internet security solutions throughout the agency's network of desktops.
SEP's selection of Symantec was based on a customized plan drawn up for the agency by Symantec Security Services professionals, providing an assessment of the security needs for SEP's computer network and then providing assistance for implementation of the necessary security solutions.
"Considering the threat of cyber attacks that exist in today's connected world, Internet security is no longer a luxury but instead is a must in order to ensure the defense of one's critical infrastructure, particularly for a public agency as large as the Secretary of Education of Mexico," said Gail Hamilton, Symantec executive vice president. "The leadership for the Secretary's office must be commended for their initiative and willingness to take every step necessary to protect the information of their agency and the constituents they serve."
