CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 18, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) has selected Symantec to protect and manage its extensive IT environment. DISD encompasses 218 schools and is one of the 10 largest school districts in the nation, with nearly 164,000 students and more than 19,000 employees.
Symantec will provide Dallas Independent School District with award-winning antivirus, PC management, and desktop system performance solutions to enhance and secure desktops and servers throughout the 351-square-mile school district. In addition, the company will provide an implementation plan and offer consultant services to enable DISD to effectively deploy and manage security technologies and systems enterprise-wide.

In addition, DISD will deploy Symantec Ghost, to ease enterprise PC management, user migration, application deployment, and backup and recovery; and Norton Utilities, to provide fast and reliable system optimization, troubleshooting, and problem resolution. These best-of-breed solutions, together with Symantec's world-class services and support, will enable DISD to maximize their IT infrastructure and, in turn, increase the quality of education that students receive. Softmart Government Services, Inc. provided the products to DISD as a vendor of the Texas Cooperative purchasing Network (TCPN).
