CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 18, 2002 Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Rohm & Haas Company (NYSE:ROH) has standardized their usage of Symantec security solutions across the enterprise as part of a two-year agreement. Rohm & Haas is a $6 billion, Philadelphia-based company that produces specialty chemical products worldwide for personal care, grocery, home and construction markets and the electronics industry. Products were sold to Rohm & Haas through Corporate Software, a global leader in improving the way companies acquire, implement and manage software technology.
"We felt the most efficient and effective way to manage the task of monitoring our network was to partner with a vendor that specialized in Internet security and offered the expertise we needed to ensure the integrity of our cyber infrastructure," said Randy Carter, director, IT Infrastructure at Rohm & Haas Company. "As we look to reduce costs and consolidate vendors, we felt Symantec could offer us world-class product and service solutions on a global basis."
"In order to meet the blended threats of today, enterprises are recognizing the benefits of partnering with fewer vendors to help meet that company’s Internet security needs," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Product Delivery and Response. "By using a combination of Symantec’s broad range of security solutions, Rohm & Haas eliminates problems of compatibility and creates a seamless, integrated approach to their network security which is easier and cheaper to maintain than using a patchwork of software throughout their cyber infrastructure."
Rohm & Haas will use Symantec antivirus solutions to automatically protect desktops, servers, and gateways from malicious code, including viruses, worms, Trojan Horses, and script-based threats. By eliminating malicious code at all possible entry points, as well as in both outgoing and incoming e-mail, Symantec antivirus solutions safeguard the integrity of data that enters and leaves Rohm & Haas’ information network.
Symantec Desktop Firewall is one of the easiest to use and least intrusive solutions for protecting users from hackers and corporate networks from back-door attacks. It deploys rapidly and works in the background, monitoring inbound and outbound communications. Remote installation and compatibility with leading VPNs make it an essential solution for securing remote communications.
As part of the contract, Rohm & Haas also renewed their use of Symantec Ghost and pcAnywhere. Symantec Ghost, the premier PC management tool for IT administrators, significantly eases enterprise PC management, user migration, application deployment, and backup and recovery, thereby boosting IT productivity while reducing TCO. Rohm & Haas will also use Symantec pcAnywhere to provide secure, reliable, and efficient remote access capabilities to helpdesk administrators and remote users.
As a customer of Symantec Enterprise Security, Rohm & Haas is supported by one of the largest professional security organizations in the world, offering security consulting, security education and managed security services. A global network of researchers provides Rohm & Haas with around-the-clock, immediate response to any new security-related attacks.
