CUPERTINO, Calif. – Sept. 17, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that it will host a Webcast offering recommendations on how to get the most out of intrusion detection systems and services. The Webcast, titled “How to Make Intrusion Detection Systems Work for You” will be held on Thursday, September 19 at 8:00 a.m. PT and again at 1:00 p.m. PT. Attendees can register at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/content/webcastinfo.cfm?WebcastID=33.
Rob Clyde, vice president and chief technology officer at Symantec, will lead the Webcast. Clyde will discuss how intrusion detection systems and services can help cost effectively protect the most complex network configurations, and reduce loss associated with information and IP theft. In addition, he will talk about early warning signs and the need for policy-based, real-time intrusion detection management in high-speed environments.
"Many organizations believe that having anti-virus or a firewall will protect them from attacks originating from the Internet," said Clyde. "However, today’s blended threats combine multiple attack methods, which require an integrated security strategy for multi-tiered protection. Intrusion detection systems complement other security mechanisms by offering significant detection and prevention capabilities against external attacks and internal policy abuse."
Clyde will also address intrusion prevention as a key trend in the IDS market space, exploring the growing need for real-time, proactive response to stop attacks before they reach the intended target and cause damage. Symantec currently offers intrusion prevention in Symantec Gateway Appliance and Symantec Client Security, which integrate firewall, IDS and anti-virus into a single agent to provide real-time response by dropping malicious packets and connections before they can cause damage.
