Symantec Offers Webcast on the Critical Role Employees Play in Enterprise Security

CUPERTINO, Calif. – Sept. 30, 2002 - Symantec Corp., (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that it will host a Webcast offering recommendations on how businesses can strengthen employee security knowledge as part of a comprehensive security solution. The Webcast, titled “Building the Human Firewall,” will be held on Thursday, October 3, 2002 at 8 a.m. PST and 1 p.m. PST. Attendees can register at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/Content/webcastinfo.cfm?WebcastID=34.

The Webcast is designed for managers responsible for strategic security decisions, policy setting, and employee training. Candy Alexander, CISSP, education programs manager, Symantec Education Services, will lead the Webcast. Her discussion will enable participants to:

  • Understand the nature of internal information security threats
  • Assess the levels of security awareness that should exist within the enterprise to enhance the information protection program
  • Use a systematic approach and a sound education program to address the security awareness needs of the enterprise workforce
  • Understand how security education and certification programs benefit individuals as well as the company
  • Build the "human firewall" within the enterprise, including development of cross-functional teams and responsibilities of every person in the workforce

"A company can implement the best security technology in the world, but if its people are not part of the total security solution, the organization's information is still dangerously vulnerable," said Alexander. "Developing the human factor as part of a comprehensive security solution includes ensuring that information security personnel understand information security threats that come from inside an organization, and how an effective employee awareness program can strengthen the organization’s information protection posture."

Candy Alexander is responsible for developing Symantec's extensive Corporate Security Awareness Program. She has 14 years of Information Security experience and obtained the CISSP designation in 1997. Currently, Ms. Alexander is the Information Systems Security Association's (ISSA) Vice President of International Relations, ISSA representative to the Human Firewall Association, as well as the local New England Chapter President. In 2000, she was recognized by the ISSA as Security Professional of the Year.
