CUPERTINO, Calif. - Oct. 2, 2002 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced a program addition for its annual worldwide users’ conference, SecureXchange. SecureXchange 2002 will be held at the Renaissance Washington, D.C. Hotel, Oct. 7-9, 2002. In addition to conference keynote addresses from Symantec CEO John W. Thompson, Symantec CTO Rob Clyde, Computerworld magazine Editor-In-Chief Maryfran Johnson and Richard Clarke, Special Advisor to the President for Cyberspace Security, U.S. Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT), will address conference attendees at a gala dinner event starting at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 7.
Senator Bennett is a former chairman and current member of the Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force and a recognized leader in the Congress on technology issues including Y2K, cyber security and critical infrastructure protection. Bennett has been a strong supporter of the information sharing and analysis center (ISAC) model for industries to share information on their respective security threats and vulnerabilities. He has also authored legislation currently pending in the Senate to promote information sharing through public-private partnerships. These partnerships are key to securing critical infrastructures like finance, energy and communications networks, most of which are maintained by commercial firms.
The addition of Senator Bennett to SecureXchange is significant, given his homeland security and technology leadership in Congress. His remarks will add further government perspective to an agenda already featuring White House advisor Richard Clarke. This element of the SecureXchange program is timely, given Clarke’s recent release of the draft National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace. Symantec experts were early contributors to the national strategy document, which is currently open for public comment.
SecureXchange, a users' conference event that focuses solely on information security and its related topics, offers ample opportunities for Symantec users to exchange information, learn more about Symantec products and provide feedback on how the company could improve its security solutions. Attendees can also receive Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credit towards Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification. Symantec enterprise customers, resellers and partners may register online to attend SecureXchange at http://enterprisesecurity.symantec.com/securexchange2002.
