Symantec Adds Firewall Protection to Its Premium Internet Security Subscription Offering for T-Online Customers

CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 13, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that it is extending its joint product offering with T-Online, one of Europe's largest Internet service providers, to include defense against hackers and online intrusions. Now T-Online's 10 million German customers can benefit from the unrivaled protection of both Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall for one monthly subscription service fee.

T-Online's new Internet security service offering, the Professional Package, includes defense against hackers and other unauthorized PC access as well as protection from viruses, worms and Trojan horses. Additional licenses are available for small office/home office networks. The Professional Package joins T-Online's current service offering, the Comfort Package, which was introduced last year. The Comfort Package features a full version of Symantec's award-winning virus protection software Norton AntiVirus 2003.

T-Online customers choosing these packages will no longer need to worry about having the most up-to-date protection against increasing Internet threats. Both Norton AntiVirus and Norton Personal Firewall are automatically updated in the background as soon as the user goes online, so customers always have the latest protection as long as they remain subscribed to the service.

"We're delighted to be extending our successful partnership with T-Online," said Hans-Peter Bauer, Symantec vice president and general manager, Central European Region. "Threats from the Internet will no longer be a concern for individual and small business users when they are protected by Symantec solutions."

Burkhard Graßmann, T-Online board member for sales and marketing, added: "We want to protect our customers from the possible dangers involved in using the Internet. By offering them a package of the world's leading Internet security products, we've taken the worry out of surfing."

Symantec's Norton AntiVirus 2003 is the world's most trusted antivirus solution. This easy-to-use program scans and cleans both incoming and outgoing e-mail; stopping viruses from infecting a user's computer or spreading to another machine. Now it also detects viruses in instant message attachments. Norton AntiVirus removes viruses automatically, without interrupting the user. Automatic updates help defend PCs against new viruses-and Symantec's exclusive Worm Blocking and Script Blocking technologies can identify and stop suspicious programs even between virus definition updates.

Symantec's Norton Personal Firewall 2003 keeps hackers out and personal data in. Its robust defenses include intrusion detection, application control, and privacy protection-all in one easy-to-use program. Norton Personal Firewall hides the user's PC on the Internet to keep hackers from seeing it. Norton Intrusion Detection blocks suspicious incoming connections and Internet Access Control stops malicious programs from spying on the user's system. Norton Privacy Control prevents confidential data from being sent out though e-mail, instant messages, and Microsoft Office attachments.
