Symantec Launches Technology Partner Program

Symantec Opens Doors for Integration With Third-party Solutions

CUPERTINO, Calif. - March 24, 2003 - Symantec Corporation (NASDAQ: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today launched the Symantec Technology Partner Program which establishes standards for how diverse security and infrastructure products from multiple vendors can work together with Symantec technologies to simplify complex enterprise networks for joint customers. Qualified partners will be able to integrate their products with Symantec's industry-leading security solutions and Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, an interoperable framework based on industry standards that enables Symantec and third-party vendor solutions to work together to provide secure, manageable and scalable enterprise security.

The Symantec Technology Partner Program simplifies Symantec's engagement process with technology partners and facilitates the delivery of comprehensive integration tools, development support, joint sales and marketing resources and product certification. Partners whose solutions meet Symantec's established criteria for interoperability will earn the use of Symantec certification logos. Detailed information on the program procedures, requirements and benefits can be found at

"Organizations operate disparate software and hardware that often require enormous amounts of time to integrate and manage. Symantec recognizes our customers' need to gain greater control over their network environments," said John Schwarz, president and chief operating officer, Symantec Corp. "By integrating third-party products with our key security solutions and our standards-based architecture, Symantec and its selected partners can work together to improve security, simplify network complexity and increase ROI on security investments for our mutual customers."

Blue Coat Systems (NASDAQ: BCSI), Clearswift, Entercept Security Technologies, Network Appliance (NASDAQ:NTAP), Top Layer Networks and VIGILANTe are among the early adopters of Symantec's integration technologies who have helped Symantec define its newly launched Technology Partner Program. To date, this early work has resulted in the following integrations with Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine: Blue Coat Systems' SG400, SG800 and SG6000; Clearswift MIMEsweeper; and Network Appliance Storage Systems and NetCache.

"Entercept Security Technologies and Symantec have established an excellent collaborative relationship and we're pleased to be a part of Symantec's Technology Partner Program," said Lou Ryan, president and CEO of Entercept Security Technologies. "By integrating Entercept's host-based intrusion prevention solution with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, customers will be able to easily manage the events generated by our product within the Symantec Security Management System for increased efficiency, uptime and cost savings."

"Integrating with Symantec has provided our joint customers with one of the most deployable, high-performance Web anti-virus solutions on the market today," said Charles Dauber, vice president of marketing for Blue Coat Systems. "Symantec's Technology Partner Program allows us to couple the industry's leading anti-virus technology with Blue Coat's optimized Web security platform, further safeguarding enterprises from the threat of viruses, worms and Trojans traversing open holes in the firewall."

"The Symantec Technology Partner Program brings two leaders in their respective markets into a meaningful partnership that delivers great value for customers. Technology integration is recognized as a high customer priority and Symantec is a logical customer choice to protect our email content security solution," said Don Taylor, CEO, Clearswift. "Symantec provided a comprehensive developers kit, excellent technical support and certification that made it attractive to bring the value-add of Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine to our customers."

"We are pleased that NetApp® storage systems and NetCache® are among the first products to be integrated with Symantec AntiVirus Scan Engine," said Edward Sharp, director of CDBU marketing at Network Appliance. "Network Appliance will continue to work with Symantec and other industry leaders to deliver the world's best integrated total solutions for today's demanding enterprise storage and caching applications."

The Symantec Security Management System and other Symantec products are built in compliance with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, which provides a standards-based interoperability framework for Symantec and third-party solutions to work together and provide secure, manageable, and scalable enterprise security. Customer environments are heterogeneous and often contain security products from many vendors. Therefore, an interoperable architecture is a critical enabler to enterprises that need strong security and centralized management.
