Symantec's Norton AntiVirus Wins Eighth Consecutive PC Magazine Editors' Choice Award

Editors Praise Excellent Protection, Ease of Use and Online Support

CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 09, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that for the eighth consecutive year, PC Magazine has awarded Norton AntiVirus its celebrated Editors' Choice award. Results of the product roundup, available in the April 22, 2003 edition of the magazine, reveal that Norton AntiVirus has again outperformed competitors to earn a perfect five-star rating as the top personal antivirus solution.

"With Norton AntiVirus 2003, Symantec has taken a great product and made it even better," editors wrote. "Norton AntiVirus 2003 gets our top rating for delivering both excellent protection and foolproof ease of use. [It] offers home and small-business users stellar AV protection that does its job fast."

According to PC Magazine, each product was tested for installation, support, interface, scanning, scheduling, updating, and depth of configuration. Reviewers concluded that automatic detection and removal of worms and Trojan horses, direct scanning of instant-messaging attachments, quick definition updates, and its unique outgoing e-mail scanning set Norton AntiVirus apart as a valuable investment.

Editors reported that in addition to having the best interface of all of the products tested, Symantec's Norton AntiVirus boasts the highest record in virus accuracy testing. To determine accuracy, PC Magazine compiled results from February 2001 to February 2003 from three of the most highly regarded independent antivirus testing organizations: AV-Test.org, ICSA Labs, and Virus Bulletin. "Symantec did best for this two-year period, with a 97 percent pass rate," editors explained. "Its perfect record on ICSA and Virus Bulletin 100 certification was notable."

Symantec's tech support Web site also earned reviewers' praise. "Symantec has perhaps one of the best online support sites we've seen," editors remarked. Support questions can be sent via e-mail, but answers to most questions are likely already available on the Web site, they added. Editors also commended the new Automated Support Assistant, which determines which Symantec products and versions the user has and automatically checks to see if updates are needed.

Symantec's Norton AntiVirus is supported by Symantec Security Response, the world's leading Internet security research and support organization. Symantec Security Response leverages sophisticated threat and early warning systems to help provide customers with comprehensive, global, 24x7 Internet security expertise to proactively guard against today's complex threats.
