Symantec Public Sector Security Expert to Speak at E-Gov 2003 Conference

CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 9, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Tony Cole, Symantec's director of critical infrastructure protection programs, will participate in a panel discussion on securing wireless networks and mobile devices at the E-Gov 2003 conference, in Washington, D.C., June 10-12.

The panel, titled "Deploying Effective, Secure Wireless Applications" will examine technologies and procedures required to field secure and reliable wireless networks. Cole will address security measures required to shield wireless networks from intercepts, intrusion and abuse, as well as security polices required to appropriately govern employees' use of wireless equipment and mobile devices. The panel will take place on Tuesday, June 10, from 2:45 p.m. - 4 p.m. at the new Washington, D.C. Convention Center.

Cole is an expert on information assurance strategies and technologies in the public sector. In his current position, he assists U.S. federal government agencies in executing enterprise security strategies to protect large-scale IT operations and assets. Prior to joining Symantec, Cole was a senior executive at Recourse Technologies responsible for managing the intrusion detection software firm's relationships with military and civilian federal agencies. Cole is retired from the U.S. Army, where he served inside Army computer emergency response teams (CERTs) in Europe, Asia and North America.

E-Gov 2003 provides a unique forum for government and industry professionals to discuss strategies, explore new technologies, and identify solutions for today's public sector challenges. A variety of platforms allow conference attendees to network, collaborate, and actively learn from expert faculty and peers offering insight on improving government operations and service delivery.
