CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 16, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq:SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Tony Cole, Symantec's director of critical infrastructure protection programs, will deliver a presentation describing advances in intrusion detection technologies and methods for creating more effective, integrated network defenses at the second annual Federal Information Superiority Conference, in Colorado Springs, Colo., June 17-18.
Cole's presentation, titled "Intrusion Detection, Response and Protection" will examine the evolution of intrusion detection technologies amid the rapidly evolving requirements of government agencies. Cole will describe factors driving the need for faster, more accurate detection of novel attack methods across the network. He will also address tools and procedures that tightly integrate intrusion detection with other network defenses, including antivirus, firewall, incident response and security intelligence, to improve security management and maintain a panoramic view of enterprise security. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, June 18, from 9:15 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colo.
Cole is an expert on information assurance strategies and technologies in the public sector. In his current position, he assists U.S. federal government agencies in executing enterprise security strategies to protect large-scale IT operations and assets. Prior to joining Symantec, Cole was a senior executive at Recourse Technologies responsible for managing the intrusion-detection software firm's relationships with military and civilian federal agencies. Cole is retired from the U.S. Army, where he served inside Army computer emergency response teams (CERTs) in Europe, Asia and North America
The Federal Information Superiority Conference draws attendees from the U.S. Defense Department, civilian federal agencies, the IT industry and academia to participate in a collaborative forum with a focus on information security awareness, training, tools and techniques.
