CUPERTINO, Calif. - July 30, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, announced today that ForeScout Technologies' ActiveScout solution has been certified by Symantec as interoperable with the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture. ForeScout joined the Symantec Technology Partner Program in June and created its integration through the use of the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture Software Development Environment, a set of development tools provided by the program.
The Symantec certification verifies that ActiveScout has demonstrated its ability to feed its intrusion prevention event information to products that are interoperable with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture. By utilizing Symantec's security management solutions that are built on Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, organizations can view their critical security information via a single management console, allowing for simplified management and reduced costs.
"Customers operate their network environments with a heterogeneous mix of security products," said Gail Hamilton, executive vice president, Symantec. "By integrating with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, ForeScout has become part of a growing, multi-vendor security ecosystem that will help to reduce the complexities of security management."
"Certification of ActiveScout interoperability with the Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture provides our joint customers with ForeScout's new layer of network perimeter protection within a single security management system," said T. Kent Elliott, CEO, ForeScout Technologies. "This further simplifies and reduces the operational cost of security management."
ActiveScout sits outside the enterprise firewall using its patented process to carry-on a counterfeit dialogue with potential attackers who have already found a network entry point and are now attempting to find open and vulnerable resources within the network. If the attacker attempts to gain access to virtual resources provided by ActiveScout, they "prove their intent" to attack, properly triggering ActiveScout to automatically block them from network entry.
Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture
The Symantec Security Management System and other Symantec products are built in compliance with Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture, which provides a standards-based interoperability framework for Symantec and third-party solutions to work together to provide secure, manageable, and scalable enterprise security. Customer environments are heterogeneous and often contain security products from many vendors. Therefore, an interoperable architecture is a critical enabler to enterprises that need strong security and centralized management.
Solutions currently utilizing Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture include: ForeScout ActiveScout, Symantec Client Security, Symantec Gateway Security, Symantec Host IDS, Symantec Vulnerability Assessment, Symantec Incident Manager and Symantec Event Managers for AntiVirus, Firewall and Intrusion Detection. Additionally Symantec Event Collectors for third-party products include: Symantec Event Collector for Network Associates ePO and VirusScan, Symantec Event Collector for Trend Micro Gateway and Groupware, Symantec Event Collector for Check Point VPN-1/Firewall-1, and Symantec Event Collector for ISS RealSecure.
Symantec Technology Partner Program
The Symantec Technology Partner Program establishes standards for how diverse security and infrastructure products from multiple vendors can work together with Symantec technologies to simplify complex enterprise networks for joint customers. Qualified partner products can be integrated with Symantec's industry-leading security solutions and Symantec Enterprise Security Architecture. The Technology Partner Program offers comprehensive integration tools, development support, joint sales and marketing resources and product certification. Partners whose solutions meet Symantec's established criteria for interoperability earn the use of applicable Symantec certification logos.
