CUPERTINO, Calif. - Oct. 1, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Temple University has standardized on Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition to protect its cyber infrastructure from viruses, worms and other malicious code threats. Additionally, Temple is utilizing Symantec Ghost to accelerate the deployment and maintenance of servers and workstations.
As part of a two-year agreement, Temple is utilizing Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition to shield servers and desktops used by more than 36,000 students, staff, and faculty members from viruses, worms, and other malicious code threats that compromise data and impair network performance. "Blocking entry of malicious code that could compromise our network requires a holistic approach, given our vast numbers of users and connected systems" said Timothy C. O'Rourke, vice president of computer and information services for Temple University. "Temple's awareness campaign around safe computing practices and Symantec's centrally-managed antivirus solution are instrumental in protecting our university population from viruses and worms posing risks to thousands of networked devices."
Complementing the university's selection of Symantec for centrally managed virus protection, Temple IT administrators utilize Symantec Ghost to accelerate deployment and maintenance of university computers. Using Symantec Ghost's central management console, university IT staff administer Temple's network with greater efficiency by remotely installing or restoring OS and application software across the network, streamlining the installation of new computers and recovery of systems needing repair.
"Universities are confronting numerous risks from sophisticated malicious code threats, including compromised data, loss of network availability and attacks on third parties launched from co-opted computers," said Glenn Taylor, director, state, local and academic programs, Symantec. "Temple manages these risks through university-wide malicious code scanning and maintaining the means to quickly restore secure configurations to any affected systems."
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition offers centralized policy management with scalable, cross-platform virus protection for workstations and network servers throughout the enterprise. To maximize uptime and minimize the cost of ownership, its unique NAVEX and Digital Immune System technologies provide fast, reliable, and hands-free virus detection, analysis, and repairs via automated submission and response mechanisms. Symantec Ghost is the premier tool for PC deployment, recovery, cloning, and migration. It dramatically reduces IT costs by streamlining the configuration of networked workstations. Now administrators can deploy or restore an OS image or application onto a PC in minutes and migrate user settings and profiles to customize the PC.
