Symantec Details Security Intelligence Strategies at FIAC

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Oct. 20, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that Dee Liebenstein, group product manager for Symantec Security Response, will deliver a presentation on strengthening information assurance operations through gathering early warning intelligence on cyber threats at the Federal Information Assurance Conference (FIAC) in College Park, Md., Oct. 21-23.

Liebenstein's presentation, titled "From Information Overload to Actionable Alerts: Aggregating and Disseminating Threat Intelligence for Critical IT Systems," will demonstrate how public sector organizations can be proactive in their approach to intelligence gathering by quickly identifying emerging threats from multiple sources. Liebenstein will outline factors driving the demand for authoritative intelligence collection and analysis, key sources of global security information and criteria useful in customizing intelligence programs. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 1:15 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland's Inn and Conference Center in College Park, Md.

In its third year, the Federal Information Assurance Conference brings together a variety of resources from government, industry, and academia to showcase key information assurance programs and services offered by the federal government, important information assurance technologies produced by industry, and significant security policies, planning and training necessary for their implementation.

Liebenstein is group product manager for Symantec's DeepSight Threat Management System. This early warning security system provides the most comprehensive view of the Internet security landscape, proactively alerting organizations of active attacks to which they are vulnerable, while offering expert analysis and detailed countermeasures to mitigate risk. Prior to joining Symantec, Liebenstein served as a product manager at security software vendor AXENT Technologies, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Best Software.
