U.S. Department of the Interior Standardizes on Symantec AntiVirus

Enterprise License Agreement Protects Agency From Malicious Code Threats

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Nov. 18, 2003 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in Internet security, today announced that the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) has selected Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition as the federal agency's enterprise-wide virus protection solution.

Under the terms of a three-year enterprise license agreement, the DOI is utilizing Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition to protect its network infrastructure, including up to 80,000 desktops, from viruses, worms, and other malicious code threats that compromise data and impair network performance. The agreement complements certain DOI agencies' existing use of Symantec AntiVirus.

"This is a vital addition to other cornerstone enterprise agreements established in the DOI that are geared towards improved security," said Hord Tipton, chief information officer for the DOI. "Interior's security program is further enhanced with the addition of Symantec to our enterprise family."

"The increasing frequency and sophistication of malicious code threats presents a significant information assurance risk for government organizations," said Tom Mazich, vice president, public sector, Symantec. "The DOI's enterprise-wide adoption of Symantec AntiVirus typifies an effective approach to preventing the entry of malicious code by placing uniform, centrally-managed protection at all points on the network."

Symantec AntiVirus Enterprise Edition is a multi-tiered solution that delivers enterprise-strength protection at the gateway, network server, and workstation. The product suite provides Symantec's industry-leading, high-performance antivirus technologies in a single, comprehensive solution. It combines award-winning technologies and Symantec's global response infrastructure to provide superior protection at every network tier.

The Department of the Interior is the nation's principal conservation agency, responsible for protecting fish and wildlife, providing wise stewardship of energy, mineral, land and water resources and conducting scientific research. The department's bureaus include the National Park Service, the U.S. Geological Survey and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
