CUPERTINO, Calif. - April 1, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 6.0, a uniquely comprehensive early alerting service that delivers timely and actionable security intelligence based on the world’s largest database of vulnerabilities and malicious code. For more efficient and cost-effective response against threats, Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 6.0 now offers customers the ability to integrate vulnerability and malicious code alert information into their existing security processes and remediation systems. This enhanced offering will allow organizations to take the critical steps necessary to ensure their environment is protected.
Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 6.0 offers customers a new option of receiving XML alerts to provide easy integration of notification content into customers’ security operation mitigation and remediation processes. XML alert notifications are delivered to Symantec DeepSight Alert Services customers as email attachments and can be imported into existing management systems. This capability will allow administrators to leverage their existing IT system to initiate action, distribute a remediation task to the appropriate employee, and track security efforts to ensure remediation of new threats. In addition, the XML Alert Output option not only simplifies alert information distribution, but it also enables organizations to effectively re-purpose alert content.
“Staying one step ahead of today’s security threats requires the highly coordinated efforts of well-informed IT staff,” said Arthur Wong, vice president, Symantec Security Response. “By enabling the integration of prioritized and detailed alert contents with customers’ own risk mitigation infrastructures, Symantec DeepSight Alert Services provides organizations with a tool for learning about pending threats, and allowing IT to apply the correct resources to the most urgent tasks.”
Because organizations must quickly respond when changes occur in their security landscape, Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 6.0 also provides enhanced administrator privileges and reporting. Enhanced administrator privileges help simplify security management and ensure rapid implementations by providing a central control point to aid in policy conformity, and by increasing control over the configuration, distribution and tracking of assigned tasks. Also alert history reporting allows administrators to track every version of past alerts enabling forensic analysis of incident response.
At the foundation of Symantec DeepSight Alert Services is the world’s largest commercial database of vulnerability and malicious code information. Symantec analysts monitor vulnerabilities in more than 18,000 technologies, operating systems, and application product versions from 2,200 vendors, and automatically deliver timely security notifications worldwide. With Symantec DeepSight Alert Services 6.0, organizations can now conduct queries by severity and impact rating for past malicious code and vulnerability alerts in order to improve processes in the future.
Symantec DeepSight Alert Services is complemented by Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System, which tracks global security events and provides early warning of active threats as they develop, on a real-time basis. Symantec DeepSight Threat Management System enables administrators to better prioritize and act upon intelligence to mitigate or even avoid damages from attacks.
