CUPERTINO, Calif. – April 21, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that Tech Data's TechSelect members selected the Symantec Gateway Security 300 Series as the "Best Solution" at the TechSelect Partner Conference, March 17-20, in San Diego, Calif. Tech Data is the leading worldwide provider of IT products, logistics management, and other value-added services.
"Through our TechSelect conferences members gain insight into developing technologies and skills that can help them grow their businesses," said Stacy Nethercoat, Tech Data's vice president of inside sales and services. "Symantec's latest security appliance earned the 'Best Solution' distinction because it represents a solid, cost-effective integrated security solution that addresses the needs of small businesses."
Members of Tech Data's reseller community were introduced to software, hardware, and peripheral solutions presented by 27 vendors. More than 150 of Tech Data's partners attended the conference and selected Symantec Gateway Security 300 Series as the Best Solution of the conference based on its innovation and compatibility for the small business marketplace.
"Small- to mid-sized enterprises are susceptible to the same information security threats as large enterprises but must combat them with restricted budgets and limited manpower," said Allyson Seelinger, vice president of North American channels. "This win is a clear validation of the need for an integrated security solution tailored for the SME market and signals that our partners believe that the 300 Series appliance will help them better serve this untapped sector."
Launched in March 2004, the Symantec Gateway Security 300 Series appliances are integrated security and networking devices that provide easy, secure, reliable, and cost-effective connectivity to an Internet service provider. Designed for ease-of-use, these appliances require little technical expertise to install and operate, but offer advanced security capabilities to handle small business needs. Customers can also gain cost savings by utilizing the included VPN feature to create secure connections, rather than using expensive leased lines.
Launched in September 1999, Tech Data's TechSelect program is a membership-based alliance of VARs focused on the small-to-mid-size business market. The program, which is supported by a dedicated business unit, provides additional services and outsourcing support to VARs looking to broaden their U.S. market coverage while reducing costs and enhancing their business management and technology expertise. Members of the network form alliances with other technology resellers across the United States and receive access to certification and training programs, special credit options and other incentives.
