Symantec's Norton GoBack Named PC Magazine Editors' Choice

Superior Performance Among System Rollback Programs Earns Norton GoBack Designation as Top Solution for Recovering Valuable Data and Protecting Against Data Loss

CUPERTINO, Calif. - June 21, 2004 - Symantec Corp. (Nasdaq: SYMC), the world leader in information technology, today announced that Norton GoBack has earned the respected Editors' Choice award from PC Magazine. In a sweeping review of 18 backup solutions, available in the June 8, 2004, edition of the publication, PC Magazine editors singled out Norton GoBack as its top system rollback program, calling it "the most intuitive solution in the rollback category."

In a review of partitioning utilities published in the same edition of the magazine, Symantec's Norton PartitionMagic 8.0 also bested competitors to receive the PC Magazine Editors' Choice award.

"Computers have become essential tools in homes across the world, holding valuable information such as important documents, financial data and personal digital photos. This makes occasional system crashes, failed installations, and inadvertent file deletions more than just a nuisance," said Matthew Moynahan, vice president of consumer products and solutions at Symantec Corp. "Norton GoBack is a powerful and convenient solution for recovering valuable data and protecting against data loss, regardless of a user's level of technical expertise. We are pleased that PC Magazine has recognized Norton GoBack as their tool of choice for system restoration."

"Our favorite tool in [the system rollback] category Norton GoBack stores every saved change you make in real time," editors wrote. "If you run into any problems, you can return your system to an earlier point in time or just restore individual files to any earlier version."

In addition to commending its usability, PC Magazine editors also noted that because Norton GoBack constantly monitors file changes both to data files and system files, it can restore anything-yet, its monitoring does not degrade system performance.

Whether restoring deleted files, or entire systems, restoration is easy, editors commented. "Just choose the Safe Point or file to be recovered, and sit back," they wrote. "GoBack will reboot your system, launch a DOS-style application, and automatically do all the work."

Editors also pointed out that figuring out which document version to roll back to is equally easy with Norton GoBack. The user simply right-clicks on a file in Windows Explorer to see a revision history and can choose an earlier version of a document simply by selecting Recover To.

Norton GoBack is available as a standalone product and is also a valuable component of Norton SystemWorks 2004, Symantec's best-of-breed problem-solving suite designed to keep PCs running at optimal performance levels.
