Symantec Solutions Earn CRN 2004 Product Of Year Awards

Symantec Network Security 7100 Series Named Overall Best Product of the Year and Best Security Solution; Symantec pcAnywhere Named Best Remote Access Solution

CUPERTINO, Calif. - Jan. 10, 2005 - Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC), the global leader in information security, today announced that Symantec Network Security 7100 Series and Symantec pcAnywhere 11.5 earned top honors from CRN as the best products for the channel in 2004. Symantec Network Security 7100 Series was named the Overall Best Product of the Year as well as the Best Security Product of 2004. Symantec pcAnywhere 11.5 was named the Best Remote Access Product of the Year.

"We are honored that CRN has found Symantec solutions to be this year's best examples of products that are both channel-friendly and of the highest technical quality," said Randy Cochran, vice president of Symantec channel sales for The Americas. "We remain firmly committed to helping our partners develop, implement, and manage a strategy to ensure the integrity of their customers' information, ultimately ensuring that our mutual customers are up, running, and growing no matter what."

For a solution to earn the CRN Test Center Product of the Year honor, it must have offered a unique channel opportunity and exhibited an incredible amount of technical prowess, according to CRN editors. CRN Test Center engineers evaluated hundreds of solutions over the 2004 calendar year and pared down the list to those products that offered technological innovation, opportunity, and profitability to solution providers.

Symantec Network Security 7100 Series, awarded both the CRN Overall Best Product of the Year and Best Security Product of the Year, provides real-time, proactive network intrusion prevention to protect critical enterprise networks and mitigate business disruption caused by known and unknown (or zero-day) attacks and worms.

"Security is all the rage for today's solution providers," wrote CRN editors. "Worms, viruses, security breaches, and malicious code are the largest problems facing networks of all sizes. Symantec's 7100 series of security appliances addresses all these threats head-on … Those looking to build bulletproof security solutions will be well-served by the 7100 series and Symantec's generous channel program. Both truly exemplify what CRN Test Center engineers look for in a product of the year-cutting-edge technology and incredible support for solution providers."

pcAnywhere 11.5 is the world's leading remote control solution and CRN Best Remote Access Product of the Year. pcAnywhere 11.5 combines a secure and feature-rich remote control product with remote management and advanced file transfer capabilities to quickly resolve help desk and server support problems across multiple platforms. Using pcAnywhere 11.5, Windows, Linux, Windows Pocket PC and Pocket PC Phone Edition users can remotely manage a broad range of devices from a single management interface. "Remote access is becoming increasingly important for both mobile users and solution providers," wrote CRN editors. "Symantec's new version of the popular pcAnywhere software can fill the need for improved remote-control solutions better than any other remote-access solution reviewed by CRN Test Center engineers in 2004."

CRN also singled out Symantec for its channel partner program. "Symantec's products offer margins in the 20 percent range and have ample room for add-ons, ranging from software assurance contracts to enhanced features," they wrote. "Solution providers will benefit from Symantec's five-tier channel program, which offers excellent benefits for any-size integrator. Extensive training and product support round out the company's channel offerings."
